Home - Safety Emergency Management Plan

  • Have a flashlight, a portable, battery-operated radio, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, emergency food and water, a non-electric can opener, essential medicines, cash, credit cards, and a pair of sturdy shoes.
  • Protect your windows. Permanent shutters are the best, but you can also put up ˝ - inch plywood panels cut to fit each window.
  • Store your valuables and personal papers in a waterproof container on the highest level of your home.
  • Avoid open flames, such as kerosene lamps.
  • Stay inside, away from windows, skylights, and glass doors.
  • Place folded towels along the joint between the bottom of the door and the sill to prevent water from being blown inside.
  • If there is a power outage, turn off all major appliances to reduce power “surge” when the power is back.
  • Turn your refrigerator and freezer to their coldest settings, and open them only when it is absolutely necessary and close quickly.
